Get to know your user

Many people say "I want a website!" without really thinking it through. A page with your contact information is always useful, but not necessarily worth the time and cost of setup.

What is important? Do you need a striking visual effect and not much else, or full account access and e-commerce applications? Or both? What would they come to your site for?

Think about your needs, and look at it from their point of view.

Simpler is Better
Just because it spins and sparks does not necessarily make it better. Try to remember not to frustrate the user by making them wait for animations or useless information that looked really cool the first time, but loses its worth if it does not provide information!

Identify Your Target Audience
Who is your audience? What terms will they plug in to that Google box to bring up your website? These are important questions. With millions of websites available at any given moment, how do you move to the top of the pile? Content, content, content.
